I'm Thomas Wood. I built Personal Ascent Coaching for endurance athletes who want to ride stronger, train smarter, and stay consistent—for the long haul.

My approach combines personalized training, clear feedback, and real-world experience to help you make meaningful progress—without losing the enjoyment that brought you to the bike in the first place.

I offer multiple packages that I customize to your specific needs.

    Fully personalized, goal-oriented training programs for endurance athletes at all levels. Your plan is based on your current fitness, time availability, strengths, and areas for growth—and it evolves as you do.

    You’ll get clear structure, realistic expectations, and ongoing feedback so you always know why you’re doing the work, not just what to do.

  • 02: Group & Event-Specific Training

    Training for a specific race or event? I offer structured group programs designed to prepare athletes for the demands of a particular course or competition.

    Group training blends accountability, community, and smart progression—so you show up confident, prepared, and ready to perform.

    Data tells a story—and I can help you connect with it.

    I analyze your rides and training metrics to provide clear, actionable feedback. The goal isn’t to overwhelm you with numbers, but to use data as a tool to guide smarter training decisions, better recovery, and long-term progress.

banana-seat beginnings

Growing up on the New Jersey coast, I started cycling on a banana-seat bike before progressing to dirt jumps and BMX. What hooked me was the daily sense of progress—seeing improvement, even in small ways, fueled a drive that never left.

In my early 20s, I moved to Philadelphia, where cycling became a way of life. Working as a bike messenger led me to track cycling and racing, and everything clicked. That path eventually brought me west to Los Angeles, where I opened one of the most talked-about bike shops in the world, worked with the U.S. National Team, and expanded my coaching—guiding athletes and leading rides for cancer fundraisers and corporate groups.

After my first child was born, I relocated to the Pacific Northwest with my partner Hilary and our son, where we now live with our two kids.

Cycling has been a constant thread through every chapter of my life—not just training and racing, but growth, connection, and discovering what you're capable of. That's what I bring to my coaching today.

10 + YEARS OF COACHING

Cycling builds confidence, strengthens character, and teaches you that consistency and patience pay off. I've experienced that transformation firsthand—as a national champion, Olympic team staff member, and now as a coach.

I've coached athletes for more than a decade, and I believe in building strong plans that stay flexible, listening first, and prioritizing long-term development over quick wins. My role is to help athletes build confidence, find consistency, and discover a deeper connection to themselves and the sport—just like cycling did for me.
